Flight of the Bumblebees 2007  -   Dick McCoy    N4UN

Just thought I would show a few photos of my FOBB this year.

I drove to Mt. Cheaha State Park which has the highest point in Alabama, at 2,405 feet.

I hiked about 1 mile up the Pinhoti Trail,  which connects to the Appalachian Trail

by way of the Benton MacKaye Trail.

Pinhoti Trail - Trailhead Parking lot prior to the Hike.  Notice the 'Frontal Ballast' needed to offset the weight of the BackPack. Hi  !!

View from my campsite on the Pinhoti Trail,  approximately 2,200 feet.

View of  Lake Cheaha from my campsite.

Google Earth view of the area.  My campsite was at the point noted as 44.3.

N4UN at the site just before setting up.

My tent using the "Tent Pole ' Tenna " which serves as walking stick, tent pole, and vertical antenna support .

FT-817 and other gear.  Everything can be placed on the Pad and quickly slid into the tent in case of rain ( which it did ).

N4UN operating during the FOBB test.

N4UN  just before the end of the contest,  and more rain !!

I was able to pack up just before the hard rain began....hiked out in

the middle of a thunderstorm .... with lightning all around.  Not Good !!

I sure won't forget this one.

Thanks for viewing and to all those who do all the work for the contest.

I had a great time!

73,

Dick, N4UN
